The blast
Bicarbonate, for a surface you do not want cut.
Soda blasting uses sodium bicarbonate. It lifts paint, grease, carbon and smoke without cutting a profile into the metal or timber underneath. We do it from Hailsham, and on site across Sussex, Kent, the Home Counties and Greater London, when a hard abrasive would mark the job. It suits thin panels, machinery you want cleaned rather than etched, smoke damage where the surface should stay sound, and timber you do not want the grain opened up. Send photographs of the part. If soda will not shift it, we tell you, and we say which blast will.

Oak veneer, soda blasted on site.
A dining room in Brighton, for Chelsea Construction (Sussex) Ltd. The panels are oak veneer, so soda was used. The dark finish came off the panelling, the doors and the staircase woodwork. The grain stayed. The worn stair treads were left.
